ANNAPOLIS, Md.–Businessman Jared Littmann won the mayoral primary election with 67% of the votes against Alderwoman Rhonda Pindell Charles in last week’s elections.
He will now face the unopposed Republican candidate, Bob O’Shea, in the general election.
The Annapolis Board of Supervisors of Elections announced the results of the municipal primary election on Tuesday amid concerns about extreme delays and issues affecting mail-in ballots.
Less than a week before in-person voting on Sept. 16, the City of Annapolis published a press release saying there had been delays in the U.S. Postal Service affecting the receipt of mail-in ballot request forms. The city advised people who had not received their mail-in ballot to vote in-person using a provisional ballot.
The City of Annapolis also announced the results for the aldermanic primary election.
Current Ward 1 Alderman Harry Huntley received 51% of the votes in the primary and will face Tom Krieck, an unaffiliated candidate in the general election.
Keanuú Smith Brown won the primary for Ward 3 Alderman with 82% of the votes. Michael Dye, an unaffiliated candidate, will be his opposition in the general election.
Janice Elaine Allsup-Johnson garnered 51% of the votes. She faces no unaffiliated or Republican candidate for the Ward 4 seat.
Diesha Contee for Ward 6 won with 60% of the vote and will oppose Republican George Gallagher in the general election.
Candidates for wards 2, 5, 7 and 8 had no competitors in the primary elections and automatically advanced to the general election.
The general election for mayor and all eight aldermanic seats will take place on Nov. 4, with the elected officials swearing in on Dec. 1.
